How We Added 4,686 Texas Dentist Profiles With Two-Source Matching
· Industry Trends · 2 min read
We recently added 4,686 Texas dentist profiles built from a strict match between an active state license record and a recent federal NPI practice record. Each profile carries two dated evidence claims: one for the Texas license and one for the reported practice contact information. The directory’s update contains 9,372 claims in total.
The point of the two-source check is to keep separate facts separate. The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners roster was used for the license and its status. CMS’s NPPES file was used for the individual NPI, dental taxonomy, and provider-reported practice address and phone. An NPI by itself is not a dental license, and a license record does not confirm that a phone number still works.
How the match was limited
We matched on the Texas license number and checked the dentist’s name against the board roster. Where the NPPES entry did not include the license number, the fallback required an exact normalized full name and exact full practice street, city, and ZIP match with a one-to-one result. We excluded existing directory profiles and ambiguous identity matches.
This batch included only records whose NPPES data had been updated within the preceding five years, and each profile retains the source update date. Even that rule is a freshness screen, not live confirmation: an NPPES update can still be out of date today.
What we deliberately did not infer
- We did not assign a specialty service based only on taxonomy.
- We did not create ratings, reviews, office hours, insurance acceptance, or new-patient claims.
- We did not treat a listed contact address as proof that a practice is open there now.
Patients should confirm licensure through the Texas dental board’s license resources and verify contact details, insurance, and availability with the office. NPI details can be checked through CMS NPPES. Browse dentists by city to see the source-backed fields and their limits.
